Deepest ever view of the universe

Hubble scientists have recorded the history of galaxies in this one image, from soon after the first galaxies were formed to their huge contemporaries

You are looking at one of the most extraordinary views of the universe ever created. It’s called the eXtreme Deep Field or XDF and was assembled by combining ten years of NASA Hubble Space Telescope photographs taken of a patch of sky at the centre of the original Hubble Ultra Deep Field. This was an image of a small area of space in the constellation Fornax, created using Hubble Space Telescope data from 2003 and 2004. The new fullcolour XDF image shown here uses the infra-red spectrum to reach much fainter galaxies, enabling new studies of the earliest galaxies in the universe.
