BIO Dr John Mather Dr Mather is a senior project scientist on the James Webb Space Telescope. He is also a senior astrophysicist in the Observational Cosmology Laboratory at NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center. What’s your role on the James Webb Space Telescope (JWST) project? I’m the senior project scientist, which means that I work with the project management and engineering teams to define the mission requirements to make sure that they are correctly implemented, and with the scientific teams to make sure we have understood the scientific opportunities and their implications for what should be built to enable spectacular discoveries.
