Fritz Wotruba Letzten Dezember wurde bei Grisebach in Berlin eine seiner Bronzefiguren versteigert, aus dem Jahr 1952, gut 40 Zentimeter hoch, für mehr als 60 000 Euro. Ihr Titel lautete „Kleiner Gehen der“, aber das war eigentlich eher ein Witz. Denn klein war an diesem „Kleinen Gehend en“ gar nichts. Gebaut aus einzelnen Blöcken wie ein antiker Gigant, ist diese Arbeit typisch für die späte Phase im Schaffen von Fritz Wotruba, dem wahrscheinlich bedeutendsten österreichischen Bild hauer des 20. Jahrhunderts. Damals verband Wotruba immer stärker seinen Realism us mit der Abstraktion – bis er am Ende vollständig in der Ungegenständlichkeit angelangt war. Sein Hauptwerk war dann auch keine Skulptur, sondern Archit ek tur: die Kirche zur Heiligsten Dreifaltigkeit in Wien-Mauer, ein in seiner Chaotik faszinierendes Ensem ble von sich übereinander…
