FOR years now I’ve been trying to replace all the electrical devices I take camping and four-wheel driving that are powered by conventional alkaline batteries with rechargeable devices. I hate that I always have to buy new single-use batteries for devices like headlamps, torches, handheld GPS units and other small gadgets. Unfortunately I’ve found that most of the rechargeable replacements have a very short run time compared to devices that run on single-use batteries, and not all of my devices can be replaced with a rechargeable alternative. Of course, rechargeable nickel-metal hydride batteries are an option, but again these don’t offer a very long run time before they need a recharge.
